Goodbye Brat, hello big screen. Charli xcx is officially in her movie star era.
The “360” singer took to her Instagram Wednesday to tease a new poster for her upcoming A24 film The Moment, which features Charli looking glum while sporting green eyeliner and sequins. The green and blue poster also included the names of other actors in the film, including Rosanna Arquette, Hailey Benton Gates, Jamie Demetriou, Isaac Powell, Kate Berlant, Kylie Jenner, Rachel Sennott and Alexander Skarsgård.
“Will tell you more tomorrow xx,” Charli wrote in the caption of the post.
This is not the first time Charli has posted about The Moment on social media. In October, she shared a post featuring her Icona Pop collaboration, “I Love It,” which included details about the movie. In addition to the previously mentioned cast, she also shared the movie, which is based on an original idea from the singer, will be directed by Aidan Zamiri from a script by Zamiri and Bertie Brandes. A.G. Cook, who previously collaborated with Charli, will be doing the music.
What is The Moment about?
Not much is known about The Moment, but the synopsis for the film, according to Rolling Stone, hints that it is inspired by Charli’s experience in the music industry. The film is centered on a rising pop star who is navigating “the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena tour debut.” Charli’s first arena tour was in support of her summer 2024 album Brat.
Deadline described the film as a “mockumentary” that explores how “subculture is mutated by commercial success.” The outlet reported that Arquette is playing a record label boss, while Skarsgard is described as a “fashionable European creative.” Blink Twice actress Trew Mullen will also appear in the film as Charli’s character’s personal assistant.
Charli told Vanity Fair the film is a “2024 period piece” and said she was playing a character that is a “hell version” of herself.
“It’s not a tour documentary or a concert film in any way, but the seed of the idea was conceived from this idea of being pressured to make one,” she said. “It’s fiction, but it’s the realest depiction of the music industry that I’ve ever seen.”
The Moment isn’t Charli’s only film project
In addition to working on The Moment, Charli is releasing a new album called Wuthering Heights to coincide with Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights adaptation, which stars Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie.
In a Substack piece about the project, Charli wrote, “Film is where my creative brain seems to be gravitating. I’m enjoying acting, I’m enjoying writing, I’m enjoying watching and I’m above all enjoying discovering a new craft.”
In addition to her work on Wuthering Heights, Charli has appeared as an actress in films like Erupcja, Sacrifice and the upcoming 100 Nights of Hero. She also appeared as herself in the Prime Video TV series Overcompensating earlier this year.
When is The Moment hitting theaters?
While there is no official release date yet for The Moment, the project is likely to arrive in theaters in 2026.
